Join the Board
Why join
Model Congress at Penn has been run entirely by Penn undergraduates since 1997, and it is open to every one of them. Through the year the club runs panels, guest speakers and field trips on how Congress actually works. In the spring it culminates in a conference that brings high school delegates from across the country to campus to debate legislation they wrote themselves, and the students who run it are the ones who planned it.
What Board members do
Most members chair a Committee at the Conference: you run debate on the Bills your delegates have written, keep the room moving, and decide nothing for them. Members can also join the conference staff and take on the planning that runs all year, from building the Committees and the schedule to registering schools and managing the budget. Outside the spring, the Board puts on the club's panels, speakers and trips.
Roles
The Board is led by a President and a Vice President. An Executive Director runs the Conference itself, an Administrative Director handles registration and logistics, and a Chief of Staff keeps the year's work on track. A Supreme Court Coordinator and an Executive Branch Coordinator run the two Special Committees. Everyone else chairs a Committee or joins the conference staff.
